Can anyone tell me which SATA verskion or speed this computer will support? I am thinking of putting in a SSD and want to know if there is any point in getting a SATA 3 one, or if the computer will not be able to support that speed anyway.

Regards

Andrew

Hi:

If you don't want to run the program (which I think is a fantastic utility), I can tell you that the sata controller in your notebook runs the hard drive at the SATA II (3.0 GB/S) speed.

SATA III controllers were not available until the Mobile Intel Series 6 chipset (with the 2nd generation Intel Core processors) came out.

I think it will be pretty hard to find a SATA II hard drive nowadays, and if you want to install a SATA III SSD, I would get one anyway, because they improve the drive performance (boot up time, etc.) much better than a mechanical hard drive.

I have 2 HP notebooks with older chipsets than yours with the sata 2 controllers and I installed SATA III SSD's in both of them and I am very pleased with how they work.

Not to mention you can always transfer your SATA III SSD into a newer notebook that has a SATA III controller.

If you get a SATA II SSD, you are stuck with that speed.
