f6 mute key not working

I looked for souutions for this simple problem. When I press the f6 key the audio will shut off. However the amber light does not light up. The solutions listed were either for different type of laptop, not ENVY, or for a different operating system Windows 8 or 7. It worked before a windows update. Thanks for your help, Dave

Tried your solution but got a "Software not supported with this system" . I had previously tried a "Hard Reset" with no help
