I'm troubleshooting a laptop I bought in 2016 which is suddenly having a problem with its keyboard where some keys when pressed give two responses - that key and an adjacent key.  For example, pressing either "1" or "q" gives "q1".  I likewise see w2, e3, 4r, 9o, 0p (also the left and right arrows trigger simultaneously, as do up and down).

 

Here's what I've learned so far from troubleshooting:

1. An external keyboard works fine (that's how I'm typing this)

2. A full reset of the computer failed to help

3. Uninstalling the keyboard drivers and letting it reinstall failed to help 

4. My keyboard layout is US

5. I've made sure that sticky keys and filter keys and everything like that is turned off

6. I used the Keyboard Component Test under the hardware diagnostics, and that replicates the problem (when I press either "q" or "1" it shows both "q" and "1" lighting up on the diagnostic model), but strangely when I am done it says that the keyboard passed the test.  Apparently it has low standards.  

 

That exhausts the suggestions I've been able to find online.  Does anyone have any idea what I should do next?

I see that you are facing issues with your HP product.

 

This could be a hardware issue with the keyboard and may need repair.
