Hi    Professor

Even though I have replaced the keyboard twice, do I understand from your reply that I should go ahead and send for another!!  ...  Have you seen this error of keys    8 I K <   not working before!!, there seems to have been some other people on the net with these same key issues ... keyboard connector issues!! or contact issue in the motherboard connector!! ... as stated earlier a usk keyboard works fine, but 2 keyboards of the supposidly correct part number give the  8 I K >    key issues (someone thinks it may be pin 24 on the connector!! like the Dell issue was!  ..  I know I can connect usb keyboard & soldier on, but would be good to fix & use laptop properly ..

Thanks again to anyone out there

Rick

Hi!, @ricgoforit1955:

If the keyboard change does not solve your problem, it is likely that you have damaged the System Board (Motherboard) or that you need to update the keyboard driver.

Hi Professor

WE HAVE A FIX  🙂

After  2 keyboards & people saying driver & motherboard, I thought if one line of keys is not working 8IK< , and a keyboard is a simple matrix column/row function, maybe 1 pin on the ribbon connector is not making.

Openned up laptop, into conservatory to get plenty of bright light, magnifying glass into the jaws of the keyboard ribbon connector showed one of the middle gold pins stuck into its plastic resess, they should all be springy & bent towards the center of the gap, so the ribbon cable will rub against them to make reasonable contact.

I bent the thinnest needle i could find, and held it with small pliers, glasses, magnifying glass plenty of light & carefully pushed needle behind all the gold pins to push them inwards, especially the one that was stuck in the resess, make sure they are raised enough to press onto the cable when inserted....   also then ran the needle up and down in the connector to rub/clean away any contaminants effecting poor contact.  Note slightly skewing the ribbon cable a degree or so gave a solid fix, as when it was inserted normally with plastic cable clamp down gave intermittent results.... It depends on how soft the pins are i think!

Hey presto   888888iiiiiiiiiikkkkkkk<<<<<<< all now working...

So reflection ..... small spillage ...  dry out ...   inspect & verify all gold pins in a good contact position ...   swap keyboard ... done.

Thanks again  for your communication

King Regards
