screws ssd m.2 probook 450 G4

Hi all,

I add a second hardrive to my G4 which came with a HDD 500GB 7200. I got an samsung SSD 850 EVO. However it did not come with a mounting screw. What size of screw should I buy? M2, M2.5 or M3?

Hi:

Chapter 5, page 44 of the service manual below references the size screw you need for the M.2 SSD...

Phillips PM2.0×4.0 screw

Thanks, Paul for the quick response. Is there any chance that the manual is worng on this one? Because I had a buncjh of screws marked as M2x3MM and the seem to narrow. After your post open the service lid and tried one of the 2.5 HDD disc that are supose to be PM2X3mm and the look narrow too. Actually, the screw hole for the M2 disk looks exactly the same than the lid's screw hole which is wider, maybe M2.5 or M3.

Unfortunately, that I would not know.

Did you try one of the M2 screws in the hole without the M.2 SSD installed?

Try that first, and if it threads in, then you know it is the right one.

The specs call for a 4MM length, so the 3MM you have may not be long enough with the M.2 SSD installed.

Yes, I tried them, they are too narrow. The screw receptor looks like the same than the one from the lid's captive screw. I think they has to be M2.5 or M3. I will order both sizes in different lenghts and I let you know which one fits.

I checked the service manuals for the G3, and they also list the same M2 screw.

Yet the wlan card is secured by M2.5 screws.  I'm thinking that the 2.5 x 4 will be the right one.

I do not see any M3.0 screws listed for securing any of the parts together.  2.0 or 2.5 in various lengths.
