Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

The SSD is actually a memory card with a controller chip on it, so it looks like a disk drive to the operating system.

There are no moving parts on the SSD, so just like your system memory cards, it is incapable of making any noise.

If you're getting a static sound, that is coming from the internal speaker and is likely to be a problem with the audio settings.

A SSD has no moving parts, and does not create any significant amount of electro-static "noise".

I presume that the HP designers of the computer would have addressed any such possibility.

So, it's more likely to be the cooling-fan that speeds-up when the CPU is working "hard" (and producing more heat than when the CPU is "idle").

Windows "background" processes, such as Windows Update, and Disk Defragmenter, and anti-virus updates, can, at "random" times, put a large load on the CPU, making it work "harder".

Plug in a headset to the "audio-output" port of your computer.

This will cause the computer to bypass the internal speakers.

If the noise continues, then it is NOT coming from the internal speakers.

The static noise you're referring to is actually coil whine.  It occurs when the CPU enters the various lower power states.  I disabled ACPI C2 and C3 power modes and the static noise went away on my Envy x360.  Sure battery life isn't as good with low power mode disabled, but I still get around 5-6 hours.

Hi,

I have the same issue (I can only guess this is the noise you are referring to). The noise is very low and less loud than the noise typically generated by a hard disk drive. It lasts for a fraction of second even when for example switching between 'month' and 'week' views in Google calendar in my browser!

if I unplug the power cord, the problem disappears. When I plug it back in, the sound is back. I tried with my headphones plugged in, but it does not remove or reduce the noise. I tried to disable some power modes as suggested above to see if this makes a difference, but cannot find this screen in Windows 10. I sometimes miss 3.1... Do you have a clue? Thanks in advance!
