Hi:

I have copied and pasted the release notes from the BIOS update that adds support for these processors.

Enhancements

- Integrates a new version of Intel support code for mobile processors: Intel Core2 Duo Mobile Processor T7000 and T5000 series processors. NOTE: This Intel support code was provided to HP as a critical software update. This System ROM update has no known performance impact.

Here is the link to all the revisions notes.

The way I see it, is that a BIOS update now allows for those processors to work.

They will run at the full 667 MHz if they work.

My opinion is that HP never updated the processor specs on that link I posted.

Unfortunately, the service manual doesn't differentiate by model or chipset.  It just lists all of the supported processors in chapter 1.

Hi:

It depends on the motherboard chipset your PC has.  If it is the GML40 which it probably is, the best you can do is the Celeron 450 (according to the HP specs).

The chipset specs are at the first link, and you also have to read the quickspecs from the second link I posted.

If it is the 945GM, you can go to the Pentium C2D T7600.

Hi Paul,

CPU-Z shows i943/940GML, but BIOS (68YGU) was updated to version F.0E

As I early understand, previous versions of BIOS was fixed for support C2D,

that notebook' motherbord can possible use such CPUs.

It is now clear.

Thanks.

You're very welcome.

Ah yes, I see that you can indeed install up to a T7600 processor with BIOS rev F.0E.

F.0B provided support for the T5xxx and T7xxx Pentium C2D processors.

But how about intel compatible cpu list for 940GML ? There are only Celerons.

I have simply last BIOS version flashed and yet try to understand on which CPU

can be upgraded the hardware.

Should new CPU have FSB-533 like previous or can be on FSB-667 ?

I understand that it should be Socket M (478).

OK. I try to buy & set some C2D.

Thanks.

Hi!

I have upgraded my notebook' cpu Celeron M 440 on C2D Mobile T5200.

Bios is started and shows new CPU, Bios Memory Test is OK.

But now the OS Windows 7 on notebook is corrupted and does not start.

I see only bios starting and nothing more.

It happened 2 days ago with old cpu and now to restore the system is not simple,

because CD-drive does not work well.

So, I can not say for 100% that T5200 works well.

I will solve yet the problem with restoring the system.

Thanks.

Hi:

Hopefully you will be able to get the operating system back up and running.

The processor you selected seems to be compatible according to the list.
