Cannot install win7 64 pro in hp au186tx

I am trying to install windows 7 64bit pro in my new hp pavilion au186tx using bootable USB disk. (I have tried both 2.0 and 3.0)

It loads the startup files, then when i hit "install windows" then it complains about "a required cd/dvd driver is missing"

I have tried b0th 3.1 and 2.0 usb ports with same error every time.

Please help.

This is intentional. Microsoft and Intel do not want you loading Windows 7 on the 6th and 7th generation Intel Core processor machines. Yours is 7th gen aka Kaby Lake.

Then when you get Windows 7 installed you will have to wrestle with a video driver, but solutions to that are available, too.

Is this a FreeDOS machine you are installing Windows 7 on or did you have Windows 10 on it from the factory?

What do you have listed in the device manager under display adapters?

Actually, the show-stopper for you, is that there is no Intel graphics driver for the Kaby Lake chipset, other than the one for W10.

One person modified the W10 Intel graphics driver (which worked for the HP Probook 450 G4 business notebook).

You can see this discussion below...Last reply on the page...The only suggestion I can offer would be to either try modifying the driver link he posted, and substitute the hardware ID's for the Intel GPU your notebook has (I doubt they are the same, but you can check), or try modifying the W10 Intel driver on your notebook's support page.

Here is how to find a hardware ID...You want to find the one for the device shown as a standard vga adapter listed under the display adapters device manager category.  If you see two listed there, you want the one with the VEN code of 8086.

If you can get the Intel graphics driver to install, then you should be home free, because you should be able to use the Nvidia graphics driver directly from nvidia for the 940MX.

So that we can help others, can you tell us which Intel graphics driver file you modified, and were the hardware ID's different than the ones for the 450 g4?

I just used this one http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Windows-7-VGA-drivers-Probook-450-G4/m... although this is for HD 520 and my adapter is HD 620, it still works. But dont try to update the driver from device manager. That uninstalls the driver. Also, during installation there will be a warning about the driver missing publisher information. I ignored it and installed since i downloaded it from hp.com link that mentioned in forum.

OK, thanks a lot for letting us know this information.

There are a few forum members out there that will want to install W7 on the notebook Kaby Lake platforms for one reason or another.

Kaby Lake desktop PC's are easy to install W7 on. 

Use the USB 3 creator utility to put the USB3 drivers into the W7 installation media and then just install a discrete video card that has W7 drivers.  

And on the business desktop models that have PS/2 ports, you just have to use a PS/2 KB and mouse and skip that USB creator thing.

You can't do that with a notebook.
