Pavilion dv5 2130us
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Tag on bottom of laptop states Windows 7 Home Prem OA
Last system installed and running successfully prior to being "fixed" by others was Windows 8.1 Professional (x64) (build 9600)

"You must restart"

That is last message I get after what appears to be a good install using the recovery DVDs. I have tried installs using only the 3 recovery discs and with those plus the Application and Driver Recovery disc.   Preceding that are notices received to restart the computer but I have no way to do that since pointing device non-existant.  I have attempted to turn off computer and turn it back on but after 5th installation attempt when I try power button I get flashings lights on the power and WiFi keys which leaves me no way to trun off computer but to unplug power cable and remove battery.

Is clean install from DVD of Windows 8 or 8.1 possible?  I have valid prod# for Windows 8.1

I appreciate your help but:

I attempted once more the recovery with the HP Recovery discs and inserted the final disc as I went to bed.  This morning I was greeted with the "Welcome to Windows 7" screen and real close behind that was the "Update to Windows 10"  screen which went smoothly.  I was one thankful old man!

I do thank you for the advice and will keep those instructions in my notes if I need them for later.
