After installing creators update, the 3d driveguard is stuck on installing updates from windows updates that error out, trying to manually install using the setup file on teh support page leads to failure for automatic install and files missing error if attempted manually using driver update from device manager

I've seen alot of posts about this issue but have had no luck trying fixes from other posts so i am posting here for this model series as the other posts were for similar but not the same models

I ended up doing a second fresh install of an older version of windows 10 that didn't have the creators update, then driver file on the support page for the model installed using the manual driver update option instead of the automatic install exe method. I had to also use the windows 10 hide/show updates troubleshooter to hide the hp driver update relating to 3d driveguard and then was able to install creators update version and still have a functional hardware listing in device manager along with all the remaining windows 10 updates installed successfully.

Hi,

Try the following.

Download the version of HP 3D DriveGuard on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81001-81500/sp81142.exe

Download and install the x64 version of 7-Zip on the link below.

http://www.7-zip.org/

When you've installed 7-Zip, open your Downloads folder, right click on the sp81142 package, select 7-Zip, select extract files and then click Ok.

Cut this newly extracted folder and paste it on your Desktop so it's easy to find.

When done, hold down the Windows key and press R

Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.

In Device Manager, expand System devices, right click the HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor entry and select 'Update Driver Software'.

In the following window, select 'Browser my computer for driver software' and then select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.

In the next window, click the 'Have Disk' button and then browse to the extracted  sp81142 folder you pasted on your Desktop.

Browse into the sub-folder InstallFiles, open the folder Win10, left click on the file accelerometer to highlight it and then click Open.

Click on 'Ok' and then click 'Next' and wait for the driver to install.

When done, click 'Close' and then click 'Yes' to restart the notebook.

Regards,

Downloads, extracts, go through the procedures via update drivers after browsing to the install files win10 directory and selecting accelerometer and hitting next a window popups up saying there was an issue installing the drivers, file are missing. I don't get a success and reboot option.

Hi,

The only other suggestion I have would be to run through the same procedure again, but extract the version of DriveGuard on the link below and see if that installs.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71811.exe

I downloaded the http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81001-81500/sp81142.exe file and just installed it. I didn't follow these instructions. It worked just fine for me. Make sure you have fully updated your PC, there was a update to dinner HP divers in the insider preview update I got today. The other file listed here doesn't work on the insider channel.

Hi David,

Thank you so much for this solution!

I had the same issue as described in this post and following your suggestion worked for me without problems. Kudos!

When I followed your directions, I had forgotten I had uninstalled Driveguard because it was annoying after the Creator's Update.

After I had completed the instructions you had provided and rebooted to load the driver, I downloaded and installed 3D Driveguard. NOTE: IT WAS A SILENT INSTALL. (There were no windows or prompts or anything to let you know it installed.)

After the install it was not appearing in Programs. I rebooted again and it now runs in the system tray and there are no errors.

To test it, I turned the laptop sideways and firmly banged it on my hand. I briefly saw a blue circle spinning in the system tray icon. I assume that means it is working?
