My HP laptop is Pavilion 15p-018tu with windows 8.1 single language pre-installed. I updated to windows 10 a month ago. Now my laptop is not properly shuting down. The screen goes black but the light on power button glows for long time and it never glows off. Every time i had to long press the power button to shut it down. I found in internet that downgrading to intel management engine to version 9.5 will work, but my intel management engine is version 9.5. Now what to do? Is there any permanent solution?

Hello,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome !
I just checked and I can see that your computer (this model) does not officially support Windows 10 , meaning HP never officially release Win 10 drivers for this device. http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-15-Notebook-PC-series/5355006/model/5393...
It is made to run and tested with Windows 7 or 8/8.1.
I recommend you turn back to Windows 8.1 (your previous Win version) in order to fix this problem and to have a fully supported features.
If you upgraded to Win 10 less than a month ago, you can use the built-in options to revert back to previous Windows version as explained here >> http://www.howtogeek.com/220723/how-to-uninstall-windows-10-and-downgrade-to-windows-7-or-8.1/
If you upgraded to Win 10 more than a month ago, you need to perform HP system recovery to restore to factory default condition. More info:
>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04758961#AbT9 and
>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04758961
Windows 8.1 is good operating system and will be well supported by Microsoft until year 2023.
Before doing any downgrades, please back-up your important files to external device to cover yourself/your information/ against potential incidents.

HELLO
THANKS FOR HELPING
I UPGRADED TO WINDOWS 10 AFTER CONFIRMING FROM THIS LINK "http://www8.hp.com/us/en/ads/windows10/compatible_concerns_s1.html?jumpid=cp_r163_us/en/pc_cons/win1... AND MY PRODUCT NUMBER IS J2C45PA#ACJ. AFTER READING THAT SITE I UPGRADED TO WINDOWS 10. NOW THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT IS OVER A MONTH AND MY RECOVERY PARTITION IS USELESS. WHAT TO DO NOW?
THE LINK THAT YOU HAVE PROVIDED IS FOR "HP Pavilion 15-e034tx Notebook PC" BUT MY ONE IS "HP Pavilion 15-p018tu Notebook PC". PLEASE HELP WHAT TO DO, I AM CONFUSED.

Hi,
No, the recovery partition is not useless after a month - it should remain as it is with the original Windows edition.
Please, try with it.
After a month the Win 10 built-in option for returning back is gone, but the HP recovery partitions should be there.
Let me know if they work. If not, there is another trick.

Hello,
I am so sorry - I must have copied another version - Please, accept my apology !
Pavilion 15-p018tu is indeed Windows 10 compatible 🙂
Since the computer is supported - you have the following options:
-Option 1- Use the recovery partition to restore back to the previous Windows version and continue with Windows 8.1
-Option 2- Get Windows 10 ISO (installation media) which can be burned/written to DVD or USB pen drive. This can be used to perform clean installation of Windows 10. Windows 10 ISO can be taken for free from Microsoft web site >> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO
Note, that if you perform clean Windows 10 installation the recovery partitions will be gone and you will not be able to return back to previous Windows (e.g. 8.1) unless you purchase recovery media.
By performing clean installation you will get clean fresh start of Windows 10 and any potential previous issues or leftovers will be gone. After Windows 10 installation, please run Windows Update to ensure you get the latest drivers from Microsoft OR use HP Support Assistant to update/install drivers >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467905
You may also download drivers from here >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-15-Notebook-PC-series/6936226/model/7132...
-Option 3- Continue troubleshooting with the current Windows installation
Please, let me know what security software you have installed (e.g. antivirus, firewall, etc..)
Please, run HP Support Assistant as described here >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467905 to ensure you have all the latest drivers and updates for your computer. Do not apply for BIOS updates (if offered).
Ensure Windows is fully updated.
If I were you, I'd try with Option 3 first and if nothing helps, I'd gone with Option 1 or 2.
Please, let me know what option you choose. Looking forward to your reply.

HEY
THANKS FOR HELPING AND NO NEED FOR APOLOGY, WE ARE HUMAN AND IT HAPPENS TO ALL OF US.
I WOULD ALSO GO WITH OPTION 3
NOW I AM CHECKING FOR ANY UPDATES AND IF AVAILABLE I WOULD DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THEM.
AFTER THIS UPGRADE I JUST TESTED THE RECOVERY PARTITION AS I WANTED TO KNOW IF A UPGRADE TO A COMPLETELY NEW OS HAVE ANY IMPACT ON RECOVERY PARTITION AND FOUND THAT AFTER THIS UPGRADE WHEN I TRY TO GO BACK USING THE RECOVERY PARTITION IT SAYS TO INSERT THE RECOVERY DRIVE. I THINK I HAVE TO PURCHASE A RECOVERY DRIVE FROM HP. BUT I DONOT WANT TO GO BACK TO WINDOWS 8.1 AS I DONOT LIKE THAT ONE.
FOR THIS REASON I WANT TO STAY WITH WINDOWS 10.
ONCE AGAIN THANKS TO YOU FOR HELPING!

Thanks!
If you want to stay with Windows 10, then you do not need to purchase recovery media from HP at that moment - you are free to download the Windows 10 ISO image from Microsoft site and use it anytime a recovery or clean installation is needed. No key is needed as your Windows is now activated using the so called Digital Entitlment mechanism.
Let me know what security software you have installed (e.g. antivirus, firewall, etc..) - if you run 3rd party products like McAfee, Symantec, TrendMicro , etc. - uninstall them so that you ensure they do not mess up with the installation.
Please, run HP Support Assistant and install the updates (skip BIOS).
Ensure Windows is fully updated.
Does this make any difference ?

HEY,
THANKS FOR HELPING
I USE QUICK HEAL TOTAL SECURITY VERSION 17.00(10.0.1.2), 64 BIT
MY PRE INSTALLED VERSION WAS WINDOWS 8.1 SINGLE LANGUAGE SO I GET UPDATED TO WINDOWS 10 SINGLE LANGUAGE AND ALSO HAVE AN WINDOWS 10 SINGLE LANGUAGE BURNED ON A DVD.
ONE THING I WANT TO KNOW FROM YOU THAT IF MY LAPTOP FAILS TO POWERED ON, CAN I USE THAT DVD TO REINSTALL WINDOWS OR I NEED TO HAVE WINDOWS 10 ON A PENDRIVE TO USE AT THAT TIME.
THANKS YOU!

You might want to uninstall QuickHeal and use the built-in Windows Defender to see if it will make a difference.
Since you have a DVD with Windows 10, yes, you can use it in case your computer fails to boot to Windows desktop.
In case the DVD gets lost or corrupted, you can always download a new installation (ISO) from Microsoft web site.
