I try to start my laptop, and to goes to a screen that says:
"Windows failed to start. A Recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
"If Windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose Start Windows Normally.
"(Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice.)
"Launch Startup Repair
"Start Windows Normally"
Choosing to launch startup repair takes me to a black screen with the cursor in the center. Choosing to start Windows normally makes the speakers pop, and takes me back to the same message.

I've probably left off some information you need. I'll post any you ask for, and I appreciate any help provided. Thanks.

I understand you are having boot issues on your computer. Thank you for the detailed information as to what is happening on your HP Pavilion DV5-1166Us computer. Sounds like some changes have happened that your Vista machine does not like. Follow this document on system restore.
Hope this helps.
