Pavillion 13x360PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I need help with my HP Pavillion 13x360PC I am using Microsoft Windows 10 Home.

My battery icon will randomly say "unkown remaining". Sometimes it will work as normal and state what it's charge is at and will function fine, unplugged for it's whole battery life (5 hours). Other times it needs to be plugged in or else it will shut down within minutes (even though it has a full charge), during those times it needs to be plugged in or else it will not turn back on. Then I will turn it back on and it will say it's 100% charged and work fine.

On startup, I sometimes get a battery alert. I have tried running the battery test from HP Assistant and it will not complete the test with message: "program has stopped working."

Please help, it's been happening on and off for a few months now.

Ashley

Hi, I am not sure if this article is relevant for me. It says it is for laptops that have a removable battery. I am pretty sure my laptop battery is not considered removable.

What should I do now?

Thanks!

Hello,

I used the HP Support Assistant to check my battery. It said that my battery is "OK". However, my laptop is currently functioning "normally" where it says what the battery life is at, and when I plug in my charge cord it says, "plugged in, not charging".

I have to note that I did this same test a few weeks ago when my laptop was in the state where it said "unknown remaining" or when plugged in, "charging, unknown remaining" and when I did this same test it said it was testing for a few moments and then it said, "program has stopped working". I mentioned this in my first post.

What do I do now? Thanks.

Hi @INFJash

Thank you for posting back.

I really appreciate your time and efforts.

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager.

Here is how you do it.

Step 1: Click the Windows “Start” button and right-click “Computer.”

Step 2: Click “Manage,” then “Device Manager.”

Step 3: Click the “Batteries” section. A list of devices will appear.

Step 4: Right-click the “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” device and click “Uninstall.”

Step 5: Click the “Action” menu item and “Scan for Hardware Changes” to reinstall the driver.

Let me know how it goes and you have a good day ahead.

I followed your steps around 4pm. It seemed like nothing changed so I restarted my computer. Still seemed like nothing changed so I went about my day working on my computer, watching videos, researching articles, etc. It is 10pm now, I went to watch a video on the same site I had been earlier and in the middle of it the laptop randomly froze and started making this loud, weird (deep?) noise... It was completely frozen nothing I pressed would fix it. I ended up having to hold the power button down to shut it off.

I restarted it and it started fine. I unplugged the charge cord and it shut off immediately (which is worse than before because before it would either take a few minutes or even hours and then randomly shut off but only when it said "unknown remaining". Now it isn't even saying that anymore but it is just acting worse than before I even asked for help!!

Hoping you can help me, or at least make it go back to before. Thanks.

Hello,

I need you to be more clear with me. I entered my model number and it took me to a page with available software for my laptop. I do not know what "bios" means to update. Please be more detailed.

Also, an update. After following your instructions yesterday and removing that thing and refreshing to make it reappear my laptop has been acting way worse than before. It now will shut off immediately after I unplug it every single time and will not turn back on unless its plugged in. Before it would last for hours if I unplugged it and it would be able to turn on and last for hours when turning it on without being plugged in. I hope you can at least make it go back to how it was before because that was at least managable.

I did the HP Support Assistant battery check again this morning and this time it says: Charged 100%, Battery Unknown (93). It says a paragraph about it being unable to access the battery. It worked before I don't understand what is going wrong after following your instructions! 😞

Getting frustrated. 😞
