Microsoft Windows Vista

Do you have a recommendation regarding whether it would be better to upgrade from Windows Vista (32) to Win 7 (32), or do a new installation to Win 7(64).  Laptop currently has 4 GB RAM installed.  Should i expect any noticeable performance improvement with the additional hassle of installing Win 7 (64)?  I assume I need to pay money to MS either way (?)

A clean install would likely give a much snappier OS. And yes it is going to require some cash.A clean install will also allow 32bit or 64bit installation. 32bit is a little harder to find, btw.

... Plus, the 64-bit installation lets the system use the full 4 GB of RAM?

I have a Pavilion dv6604nr with s/n:  CNF7391WR3 and p/n: GS676UA#ABA that came with Windows Vista.  Can HP check to see if it has an option for a free upgrade to Windows 7?
