Thanks. I wrote down in my previous message the detailed diagnostic results. My laptop is not very old actually I got it on Christmas 2015 but the warranty is expired unfortunatey so I guess I will buy a new Hard drive in Bestbuy, I saw this one yesterday on their site and it is the same size as the one I have. I will have to install on my own though...

Sorry I forgot to paste the link for the new hard drive I found on Bestbuy :

$50 is OK and I don't want to overspend money on a $250 laptop.

Hi,

This one sound OK and should work for your PC.

It is the same capacity and the same speed type (5400 RPM) > http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/r/rpm.htm

For slightly better performance you might want to look for 7200 RPM model HDD - 2.5 inch SATA for laptops - 500 GB or more

Once you replace the HDD you will need to reinstall an operating system.

Your PC originally comes with Windows 10 Home editon and if you have never before created a recovery media or some system image, you will need to order this one > http://www.computersurgeons.com/p-28169-windows-10-home-1b-recovery-kit-856417-002-for-hp-notebook-m...

(this is reputable 3rd party company that sells original HP Recovery media).

Here are instructions how to use this media >> http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=HPSystemRecovery.net&as=true&section=ccweb&SFS=tdoc&language...

By the way I coudn't even backup my files yesterday the backup also failed and I had to send my files to my portable drive. I also have another question the windows discs were not included with my computer so what do I have to transfer to my portabe drive to be able to reinstall windows on the new drive?

HP Recommended

On my D drive I have a recovery folder, can I use transfer this folder to my portable drive and use it to reinstall windows?

HP Recommended

Well, no, you cannot just transfer them - you will have to use HP Recovery Manager software so that it create a recovery media for you >> https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c04758961#AbT5

However, since you were unable to create a back up and you also failed to reset Windows (HP Recovery) - mentioned by you earlier, I think this option may fail and is unreliable. You can try, though, it doesn't hurt but I cannot guarantee you it will work.  If it doesn't you will have to purchase the recovery media.

For many years now computers which have Windows preinstalled don't ship with recovery discs includes - it is not only HP that does this. Computers have recovery partition and image stored locally on the HDD and it necessary, users can create recovery media on their own soon after PC is purchased. Actually, this is one of the things I do after I am ready setting up my new PC.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
