Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

hi  For  some unknown reason   I have lost the use of the   left click  on my notebook,  I am  posting this on a   different notebook as I cannot   get mine to function,  the one in question is a  HP DV6-6B09SA   windows 7  64 bit,  I have tried  system restore  useing the  enter key  but that  hasnt   cured it,  now and again  I can open  the desctop icons  by the use of  enter key   but then I cannot close them,  I have   rebooted   several times,   and now  it would appere that   nothing is responding,    so I have  forced a closure  and  rebooted,    up date   after   a few hours  i decided to   try something  else    clicking  left and right   on my mouse   loads of times   and low and behold   it worked !!!!!

but I would still like  an explanation  why it happened in the first place !!!   aslo   the quickest  way to   rectify  in case it happens again

Thanks for the post and Welcome to HP Forums
From your post i can understand that there was an issue with mouse and now it is fixed
On first we need to identify the problem why it actually occured
For this we need the event files of the pc

There are several ways to identify the problem

Best way is

start menu
Control panel
Administrative tools
Event viewer
In the left side options under windows logs -> Application
Select application Event logs and then click on Action Tab on the Tool bar and click on "Save all events as "

Similarly select system even logs and then click on Action Tab on the Tool bar and click on "Save all events as"

Share both the logs and we will respond you with the reason
Hope this helped.

Hi  again I would like to add I could not find   administrative tools   in my   control panel,  so I typed it in the start menu  and accessed it that way  I dont know if that has any bearing on    not being able to   end you the information  !!

I  dont believe this,    the same thing has happened on my other   laptop,   I was having problems  because it gets unresponsive a lot,  and I got frustrated   and resulted to clicking left and right    mouse buttons   rapidly,  and now  they're not responding,   so it was my own fault    but I cant    rectify  it now !!!!!!!   help

by using a different laptop I have found out you can alter the way the mouse buttons function, so that's what must have happened, but how can I alter it back to default when I cant use them ??????

Can you connect an external mouse to a USB port?  Does it work well-enough to change "settings" ?

i havent  got an external mouse   so  I do not know,   when I  open  control panel  >>>  mouse  button  settings>>  it will  not

respond to   clicking  left ,right,  pad,  or enter   so I  cannot    see or alter   the settings

Can you borrow one, or take your laptop to a computer store, and use one of their devices?

Or, find a "Thrift Store".  Buy a "pre-owned" one for under $5 USA.

Is it not worth $5 to get your computer working again ???

If you really are a "grad student", contact the local "Computer Help Desk" at your institution.

If you work for a large company, contact their Information Technology staff.
