HP ENVY x360 - 15-u493cl
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi,

I recently purchase a HP ENVY x360 - 15-u493cl laptop which came with Windows 10 preinstalled. I need to have it running Windows 7 for work related purposes. Taking help from other  members here I was able to successfully do a clean install of WIndows 7 on the laptop and have gotten most of the drivers.

Currently I am having a problem with the laptop keyboard and touchpad. They work but act wierd. Whenver I type, a lot of the times, the cursor moves elswhere on the line or to a different line. Words/lines get selected in random.

Wanted to know if anyone has seen this behavior before and have a resolution for it. I tried using a external keyboard and that works fine, so I know its got to be driver releated.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey @vbvr

Thank you for joining in on the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great place to ask questions, find solutions and get help from others in the community! I read your post on the HP Support Forums.

I wanted to reach out to you and help! I understand that you downgraded the Operating System on your HP ENVY x360 - 15-u493cl Notebook PC from Windows 10 to Windows 7. Now you are having an issue with the Keyboard and Touchpad.

Drivers are not available for Windows 7 systems and you would be missing some of the special features. Here is a link so you can understand your downgrade rights (although it does say for Windows 8, it is the same for Windows 10).

Generally speaking, if the HP ENVY x360 - 15-u493cl Notebook PC did not get upgraded to Windows 10 from a different Operating System and instead Windows 10 was a clean installation on the Notebook PC, it is very hard to downgrade to a different operating system.

You can try to use the Microsoft Fix it tool: Microsoft provides a web-based automatic diagnostic and repair application. Go to the Microsoft Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows webpage (in English) and click the green Run now button. Then follow the on-screen instructions. If the device still does not work, go to the next step.

If that does not work, please follow these provided troubleshooting steps:

  • Start
  • Search for Device Manager
  • Open Device Manager from the Search results.
  • Click View
  • Show Hidden Devices.
  • Click the arrow next to Keyboards.
  • Right-click the keyboard device name.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • Continue removing device names in the Keyboards category until all device names have been uninstalled.
  • Restart the notebook twice.

NOTE: Please repeat these steps for the TouchPad in the Device Manager also.

I found a troubleshooting document for you to try called Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting

Here is a document for you called Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10)

Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application and it may help you find the software and drivers for your system that need updating to run in the most compatible way with Windows 7.

Please let me know if I answered your question by clicking the 'Thumbs up'.

Have a great day!
