Hey! I haven't been able to connect to a secondary display since upgrading to windows10. I have updated all drivers yet can't seem to find the problem. Also my brightness control doesn't work anymore(neither the physical button control nor the one on the taskbar). Here are my system's specs:

 HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC

serial number: [personal information removed]

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00GHz

Intel HD graphics and NVIDIA GeForce840M

Hi  @est247,

Thank you for your reply.

Here is a link that may help.

HP Notebook PCs - Connecting a Monitor, Projector, or TV (Windows 10, 😎

Did you try installing the previous driver in compatibility mode?

When you ran the HP Support Assistant as previously suggested did it find anything?

What was the result when you ran the Windows troubleshooter?

Have you tried using a different HDMI cable?

If nothing has helped, please contact HP Support for further assistance. With your permission, they can remotely access your system to help alleviate difficulties.

You could also consider contacting Microsoft as they are offering support for Windows 10.

I understand that after upgrading to Windows 10, you are unable to connect your second display or adjust the brightness.

Have you done all your Windows updates? Have you run the Windows troubleshooter?  Have you run the  HP Support Assistant ?  How are you trying to connect the additional display?

Please reply back with the requested information.

Yes I've run all the updates. I've tried connect via HDMI and also via the wireless connection. Both to no avail.

and oh, there's one more glitch too. Sometimes, when I hibernate/put the system to sleep, the screen goes off but the system's still on ie the light on the power button will still be on. Have to force it off a lotta times.

Hi  @est247,

Just to clarify for you, it is acceptable to post your model, as that would not be unique information.  Many people may have the same model. However, the serial number is unique to each one and should not be posted publicly.

When I checked the  software and drivers page for your notebook, under Windows 8, I noticed a bios update. Did you update the bios before upgrading to Windows 10?  If not try that. HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS .You could also try using the previous driver in compatibility mode.  Compatibility Mode (from windows10forums.com)

Are you using any adapters with the HDMI connection?

What is the make and model of the 2nd display?

Have you checked the manufacturer's site for any drivers?

When you connect via HDMI what if anything happens?

Do you see an error message?

Please keep me updated.

Just checked the drivers page. The thing is, most of the drivers there where last updated in December 2015. I didn't find a BIOS update for my PC cos I updated my BIOS a few weeks ago after upgrading to 10.

I'm not using any adapter.

I've tried multiple displays including LGs and Samsung displays.

No I haven't checked the manufacturer's site cos the thing is prior to upgrading, I could connect without any hassle.

Nothing happens when I connect, no error message whatsoever. It's just as if nothing was done at all.

As for when I attempt to connect to a wireless display, it just searches forever.
