Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)
Hi the root of my problem is I'm disabled, old and have no understanding of this laptop computer. It was given to me yesterday as a gift. There's no manual only 1 page setup instructions. I started with instructions to connect to my wifi which I did. More questions I didn't know how to answer so I let it sit. I returned to a blank screen like a screensaver on my old desktop. An arrow appeared when I touched the pad. The touchscreen is working but nothing I do will move me past this blank black screen. I'm afraid I might damage it so I've packed it up for return. Is there a manual for hybrids? I'm so sorry for my ignorance. Thank you. Also, I'm guessing about it being 32 bit. It's a beautiful thing but I won't be after tearing my hair out. Sorry again.

Thanks so much for the very helpful reply. I did return the new laptop especially after seeing in the paper it was on sale, savings of $100 the day after I purchased it paying cash. They didn't have to tell me I could save $100 the next day but it's better business practice if they want my business. Sorry I'm off topic. The salesman did get it up and running but agreed it took longer than it should have. I connected to my wifi then skipped the rest and it's working as it should (I think). Thank you again for helping me.

Hello ManicBlu

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are having with setting up your (I assume) brand new HP laptop.

That model is using Windows 10  64-bit as will any standard laptop or hybrid HP sells.

There is a link at the bottom of this post that will give you instructions on setting up a new computer.

Setting up Windows 10 will be the same no matter what computer you do it from.

If you have not returned the laptop yet, there may still be hope. I doubt it is broken because you let it sit during setup.

I'm not sure what happened when you found a blank screen but if nothing was responding, you would have to press the power button until the laptop turns off.

Did you try to restart the computer to see if it was working again?

If it will not resume the process and is stuck again, you can do a recovery back to factory and start over.

This will reinstall Windows so you can set it up again.

Click the link below to go to HP's instruction on how to perform a system recovery via the F11 key at start up.

Make sure the power cord is plugged in.

As for setting up Windows, once its reinstalled...

If you can get past the part of connecting your Wifi, then the rest of the set up will be a breeze.

Here is a link to HP's page giving basic instruction for setting up a new computer the first time.

Let me know if you wish to continue and I will help you the best I can.

Thanks.
