Envy 15-as133cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Folks,

I just purchased this Envy 15-as133cl Laptop and it came with Windows 10 pre-loaded. When I plug in my external monitor via the HDMI port the monitor blinks sporatically. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. On AC or not. Running apps or just sitting there on idle. I've applied all of the available firmware and driver updates, no change. I've gone into msconfig, services, and unchecked "Problem Reports and Solutions Control Panel Support" + "Windows Error Reporting Service", no change.

A hard reset doesn't seem to make sense when this is a fresh install on a new system. Again this is only impacting the external monitor. The laptop's display functions just fine... Any ideas?

TIA,

Steve

As I understand you have been troubled with using an HDMI cable as it doesn't display an image, though you have updated the drivers it doesn't work,
Don't worry we'll get it to work with only a few steps and by we, I mean you and me 😉

Let's start with the below steps:

Update the BIOS: A BIOS update may be available and most known issues have been resolved with the latest F.13 update.

Look under Hidden devices: in device manager, if the driver shows up - uninstall/delete it and then reinstall the display drivers from HP: Click here

Check on alternate Monitors (preferably with an alternate HDMI cable):

Connecting Monitors and TVs to Your PC (Windows 10, 8, 7)

And let me know how that pans out.

Hi Riddle_Decipher,

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay. Getting access to the system, out of my wife's hands, can be challenging.

So I updated the system BIOS to the latest, F.30 12/16/2016, which was released shortly after the one you recommended. The blinking continues. I also connected the laptop and cables to another monitor and a TV and they work fine.

I've looked for flags in the device driver list, even the hidden list and nothing shows as having an issue. There was an update for the display driver so I also applied it.

For the record I am trying to connect to an HP LA2205wg via a Display Port - HDMI adaptor. I've used the adaptor on a number of displays and it's always worked.

Open to suggestions.

Thanks!
