Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

PLEASE HELP ME OUT. I've tried ALL the solutions I found online and nothing worked!!

OS: Windows 8.1-64 bit

1. My HDMI cable is brand new, AND WE tested it at the store, with the store's own TV and laptop.

2. Sound Panel -> Playback tab, then right clicked on the two options called "show disabled devices" and
"Show Disconnected devices" that appeared, and checked these. Didn't work. It did not show the HDMI device
in Playback.

3. Also installed the latest Intel Graphics media accelerator, even ran the Intel Driver update utility so
it can detect which drivers need upgrading. Downloaded their latest driver, restarted and still the HDMI
device doesn't show anywhere, not in sound panel.

4. I've also gone to Device Manager -> System Devices -> High Definition Audio Controller to Update Driver
but Windows says its Up to Date because I downloaded the latest Intel Driver for Windows 8.1

5. I've also gone to services.msc and restarted Windows Audio Service. The HDMI device still does not show
in my Sound Card Panel nor the Device Manager...I restarted my laptop while TV is ON and connected to
laptop through HDMI. Still NOT Working.

Hi @faithfern09,

Thank you for your query. I understand that you are having a difficulty connecting an additional display via HDMI. You have verified that the cable is good, as they tested it at the store for you. You have tried updating some drivers but there has been no change.

When I checked the software and drivers page for your notebook, I noticed there are BIOS and chipset updates. Please run the HP Support Assistant  to aid with any additional recommended updates.  Another link that may help is HP Notebook PCs - Connecting a Monitor, Projector or TV (Windows 😎.

Have you tried running the Windows troubleshooter?

What is the model of the additional display?

Have you checked the manufacturer's site for drivers for the display?

Please let me know the results.

Hi Sparkles!

Thank you for the suggestions and thank you for the reply.

First, I did the HP Support Assistant troubleshooting guide. It kept on failing to download updates. So I went to Windows Updates and apparently it states I need to update my NVIDIA adapter which I tried to do, but here's what happened.

1. I updated my NVIDIA Graphics Adapter manually:

nVIDIA - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3, Graphics Adapter WDDM2.0 - Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M f

2. BUT that failed, stating that I need to install the latest JAVA software which I promptly did...but halfway through, my computer got stuck...and stopped completely...

3. Then Windows went into "Automatic Repair" mode...then did some Diagnostics, and then it got stuck again.

4. Then Windows asked me to do a System Restore, which I tried to do but it just went as far as the HP logo and everything else stopped.

5. So I shut the laptop down manually and press ESC to get the Recovery menu... and press System Restore again and it went on and on ...as if on a loop...

6. Then finally, I shut it down manually, and instead of choosing System Restore, I choose PC Refresh instead...so lo and behold I went back to square one, literally with an unactivated Windows 8...hahahaha... the irony of it all... I just wanted to connect my TV using the HDMI cable...

7. So thank you for trying to help me out...I am just now setting up my computer and downloading everything from the Net, Microsoft etc.. and programs I need so I can work... Later after all the downloads, I will check again whether the HDMI cable works since this PC/Laptops is back from scratch...maybe it will work now.

Best regards,

Faith

Hi @faithfern09,

I am glad that the PC refresh has resolved the issue for you.  Once you have all your software reinstalled and back to working condition, you may wish to consider creating a restore point for future reference, should you need it.  HP PCs - Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 10, 😎.
