If your HP notebook turns on but the display / computer has black screen or remains blank, follow these generic steps to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Power Cycle the Notebook:

    • Press and hold the power button until the laptop turns off.
    • Disconnect all cables, including the power adapter.
    • If your laptop has a removable battery, slide the battery release latch and remove the battery.
    • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power adapter to the laptop and a wall outlet, but do not reinstall the battery if you previously removed it.
    • Press the power button to turn the laptop on.

  2. Connect an External Monitor:

    • Use a DisplayPort or HDMI cable to connect the notebook to an external monitor.
    • Connect AC power to both the notebook and the external monitor.
    • Turn on the external monitor and see if it displays an image. If it does, the notebook’s internal display might need repair.

If the screen remains black on both the notebook and the external monitor, there could be a startup issue, and further diagnostics may be needed.
