Hello guys, I bought my HP 14-r000ne Notebook  about two weeks back, and since day 1 when I was configuring i ran into a problem. I have set that the display to turn off after 10 minutes, and when it does and I try to turn it on again by moving the mouse or hitting the keyboard keys nothing works and the screen keeps blank while i can see the lights on the keyboard and the hard disk light are on. the only way to turn it on again is by having it goes to sleep mode then it would work.

Same thing happens if i turn it off (as in windows 8, the laptop doesnt completely turns off, when I try to put it back on, it starts but also the screen remains blank), the only solution here is to keep pressing the power button so it goes to a complete shutdown, or changing the power option and uncheck the fast turn on option.

What I did then, is I have gone to the advance troubleshooting and made a system refresh, where things worked fine for about two weeks, until today the problem started again exactly like before.

Any suggestions on what to do?

thank you

Hey @Chadik ,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand you're having issues with turning off the display and shutting down the notebook.

Typically the shutdown issue is the result of the hibernate feature being enabled. You can disable this so the notebook completely shuts down instead of going into hibernate.

To do this:

  1. Press Windows Key + X.
  2. Click Power Options.
  3. Click Choose what the power buttons do.
  4. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  5. Uncheck Hibernate.
  6. Click Save changes.

I would also suggest checking the touchpad options to make sure it is allowed to wake the notebook.

To do this:

  1. Press Windows Key + X.
  2. Click Device Manager.
  3. Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  4. Right-click the touchpad.
  5. Choose Properties.
  6. Click the Power Management tab.
  7. Make sure the box titled Allow this device to wake the computer is checked.
  8. Click OK.

If a system restore temporarily resolves the issue its possible a setting is being changed or a Windows update is causing the issue. Try restoring the default power plan settings in the Power Options window.

Let me know if any of that helps! 🙂

This is a problem with the screen not turning back on after you having turned it off, or when you restart the computer.

Try assigning the power button to "turning the screen off".

When the computer starts correctly but with the screen turned off, just hit the power button once or twice. It will turn the screen on again, or off.
