Hello!
Just recently (within the last week or so) my touch screen has been acting up. I can sometimes click on things - such as switched between tabs. But sometimes when I click it will highlight a word on the screen instead of taking me to the link I'd like.
On top of that, I'm completely unable to scroll using my touch screen. I have to use the mouse pad or the arrows on the keyboard. I'm still able to use the mousepad for everything so it isn't like the laptop doesn't function, but it's irritating that I can't use the tablet mode. I bought this model so I could use it in both laptop and tablet mode.
I'd really appreciate it if someone helped me solve this issue. 🙂

Hi @Kyllie,
Welcome to the HP forums! It is a great way to engage, post questions and find resolutions by working with specialists in the HP community. I understand that you need assistance with the touchscreen of your computer. I’ll be delighted to assist you with this.
A commendable job was done by troubleshooting the issue. Hats off to you on that score. I am really impressed with your troubleshooting skills and levels of technical expertise and it is always a privilege to work with a tech-savvy customer like you.
At the outset, we need to isolate the issue to to being hardware or software related. Please perform a hard reset first. Steps to do it:
- Power down the computer and unplug the charger. Then remove the battery only if it is a removable one.
- Hold down the power button of the unit for 15 seconds to discharge static electrical charges inside the machine.
- Replace the battery and reconnect the charger.
Once a hard reset is done we need to run diagnostics on the touchscreen to ensure that the hardware is functional. Steps:
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.
- The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.
- Please run touchscreen diagnostics and component tests and make a note of any failure code or message.
