Envy 15-u010dx Lap Top
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I cannot get my Envy 15-u010dx lap top to accept scans from my wireless Envy 4500 Printer-Scanner-Copier.  Every time I go to scan something the Envy 4500 copier tells me that the scan failed because the scanner never connected to the lap top and it instructs me to go into my computer's settings and change the settings.  I can print from the computer to the printer wirelessly but I just can't scan from the scanner to the computer.  I have tried to find something in my computer settings that addresses this but can't find it.  I am sure it is something simple that I just can't find.  Please help me.

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

If you're using the default software that Microsoft installs in Win10 for HP printers/scanners, that is likely the problem.

I have several HP printers/scanners and NONE of them work properly in Win10 with the default software.

I've installed several printers under Win10 and what worked in ALL cases was the following:
1) Remove any drivers that MS installed for the printer
2) Remove any software that MS installed for the printer
3) Go to the HP website for the printer and download the Win10 Full Feature Software
4) Turn off the printer
5) Install the HP software but do not turn on the printer until prompted to find or connect it.
6) Finish installing the software
7) Reboot the PC

Here's the link to the HP page for your printer: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-4500-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5304875/mod...

If Win10 does now show when you open that page, click CHANGE and select Windows 10 from the pulldown.

If that still does not work, then try using the HP Print and Scan Doctor from this thread:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Officejet-4630-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5305049/model/5305...

Good Luck

This is the first time I have used HP forums to get help and I am thoroughly impressed.  I want to thank the individual who provided me with the solution because it worked instantly.  Once I removed my printer and went to the HP website for my printer and downloaded the software you recommended and followed the installation instruction everything worked great.  Thanks again!
