HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g015
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I believe I need to replace my existing Realtech RTL8188EE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter with one that is compatible with bluetooth. I've read that I should use Atheros AR9565 802.11bgn + Bluetooth 4.0 Wi-Fi Adapter. But I know nothing about how to go about this. Could someone provide directions?

Hi:

Rather than the Atheros AR9565 802.11bgn + Bluetooth 4.0 Wi-Fi Adapter, I suggest you replace the RTL8188EE card with the:

Realtek RT8723BE 802.11bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 combination adapter

HP Part # 753077-005

The reason being that most likely your notebook only has 1 wireless antenna present, and connected to the wireless card.

The Atheros wlan card requires two antennas, and the Realtek RT8723BE 802.11bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 combination adapter, only requires one, so it would be an easy replacement.

Otherwise, if your notebook only has one antenna, you would need to completely disassemble the notebook including the display panel area in order to run a second antenna for a wifi card requiring two antennas to work.

It is going to be hard enough just to get to where the wireless card is located to replace it.

See chapter 6 starting on page 38 for the wireless card removal and replacement procedures.
