Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have just bought this laptop. I know the network adapter supports 5ghz, and my router supports dual wireless broadcasts so both 2g and 5g are possible at the same time (my iPad is connected to 5g right now)

I dont know how to tell my adapter to "see" the 5g broadcast.

Hi:

That isn't a dual band wlan card.  2.4 GHz only.

Your notebook has the Broadcom BCM43142 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter.

Anytime you see a wireless N card with a suffix that ends in b/g/n, that means it is a single band 2.4 GHz only wlan card.

Dual band wireless N cards have suffixes that end in a/b/g/n or a/g/n.

Thanks for the advice and help...even if it isn't what I wanted to hear!

Can you advise a replacement? I am shortly going to be upgrading the memory so while its open I may as well replace the card.

You're very welcome.

Yes, I can't believe in this day and age that any PC manufacturer doesn't have dual band wifi cards with bluetooth as standard equipment in their notebooks.

Make sure your notebook has two antennas connected to the wifi card before buying one.

A lot of these notebooks with single band cards only have one antenna, and one antenna won't work for a dual band card.

Since your notebook has an Intel processor...If your notebook has two antennas, then I recommend the following dual band N or AC cards with bluetooth...

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0                HP Part # 710661-001

Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260AN 802.11 a/b/g/n 2x2 WiFi + BT4.0   HP Part # 717381-001
