I have a Compaq CQ58 laptop running windows 8.1. This webcam is also not working for me. I have manually installed the latest driver  and run HP Webcam support which says there are no problems. Device manager shows it under unknown devices and that is is a NULL driver.  The webcam worked fine about a week ago, suddenly stopped. When I try to update the driver automatically, the error message is 'Windows found the driver software but encountered an error whill attempting to install it. USB Video Device. The system cannot find the file specified'

Any help appreciated! I have gone through so many posts and nothing so far has worked.

Hi @smitz28 , @1527287 ,

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message after the holiday from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publically post ( serial numbers and case details)

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Regards,
George

For those who still have this issue in Windows 8.1, I have solved it using the following steps I found in a Microsoft forum.

Go to Start - Then Command Prompt

Enter command "shutdown /r /o /f /t 00"
Click the "OK" button
System will restart to a "Choose an option" screen
Then select "Troubleshoot" from "Choose an option" screen
Then select "Advanced options" from "Troubleshoot" screen
Then select "Windows Startup Settings" from "Advanced options" screen
Click "Restart" button
System will restart to "Advanced Boot Options" screen
Select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"
Restart & update driver from device manager

Choose the browse computer rather than automatic and use the following filepath:  C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\usbvideo.inf_amd64_41b9e646f634774b

It worked for me after a lot of non solutions from tech support. Hope this helps!
