Hi Team,

I am using a notebook Compaq Presario CQ40 - 144TU, Windows 7 32-bit. I want to upgrade RAM. But I don't know exactly what kind of RAM is suitable and the range of the extending RAM(With the specification if possible). Please help me.

I have attached the image of my PC report from "crucial.com".

Is it possible for me to upgrade to 8GB.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Sakthi

Hi,

As from Crucial scan, your machine accepts 8Gb of RAM and currently it has only 2Gb in one slot, another slot is empty. Now, if you wish:

(a) Upgrade to 4Gb if you want to keep 32bit OS, you only need to buy 2Gb from Crucial,

(b) If you wish to upgrade to 8Gb, no point (sorry my typos on my previous reply) to keep Windows 32bit. You have to buy 2x4Gb, you also need 64bit Operating system and from 32bit to 64 bit is a clean install, not upgrade.

Hi,

No pint to upgrade to 8Gb when your machine runs 32bit Operating system because it can only address up to 4Gb. Please click SHOW ALL ....it will show you more options, pick 2 x 2Gb combination

Just Adding on to what the HP adviser has said ,  Since you have 32-bit OS installed your operating system wont use more than 4GB's RAMHowever that said if you installed a windows OS with 64 bit then you could expand your RAM.

If you consider getting 64 BIT windows and you want to expand your RAM then the type of RAM you would need is
"DDR 2" however your have to check what the maximum amount of RAM your motherboard can support before considering upgrading!

Hope I cleared that up! if you have anymore questions feel free to respond to this post!
