I'm having trouble trying to change this printers password I have an HP DESKJET 2540 printer. I connected it before with the password the printer printed out for me which lasted 5 minutes. And its been a while since I connected, it says now the password is unchanged and I don't have that sheet anymore I threw if out since it said good for 5 min. So I have no way in connecting to it. How do I change its password for good without printing a new code fof it everytime????

Thank youu!

Hello Faith27,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

Try re-printing the Wireless direct page again, this is done by pressing and holding the Wireless Direct button for 3 seconds. Once you have the new code, and are connected to the printer,  open the printer's EWS to change the Wireless Direct password.

To learn more about the EWS, review the User Guide.

Cheers,

So basically in order to change the password I have to be connected to the printer first right? Well that's the problem, I printed out the password and it wouldn't connect. It says wrong password and authentication error. I don't know what else to do. Is there another way?

Thank you so much!

Yes, you need to be connected to change the password. Try performing a Network Restore to the printer by pressing and holding the Wireless and Cancel button for 5 seconds. Once you release, the network defaults should be restored. Enable and re-print a Wireless Direct page and try connecting.

To access the EWS, type the I.P address of 192.168.223.1 into your web browser of the device, once you are connected to the printer.

Hey Maureen_27,

Are you looking to update the password that the printer would use to connect to a home network, or are looking to reset the Wireless Direct password to allow you the ability to connect devices directly to the printer?

If using the Wireless Direct, to view the password you can print a network info page by holding the Wireless Direct button for 3 seconds.

Regards,
