macOS 12.0 Monterey

My HP 7525 quit working due to disconnect of power cord with PC board. Inherited a HP8710 from a relative: the 3 authentic HP colors not recognized by printer but black cartridge shows OK. Purchased authentic HP 952 color cartridges (yellow, magenta, cyan) but printer continues not to recognize them. So, so frustrating. Tried numerous fixes from google searches to no avail. I need HELP!

Hi @RKS34,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already gone through quite a bit of troubleshooting, but let's try a few more steps to see if we can resolve the issue:

  • Restart Printer: Sometimes a simple restart can fix unrecognized cartridge issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait a minute or two, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Remove the color cartridges and clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water. Make sure they are completely dry before reinstalling them.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there's any firmware update available for your HP 8710 printer. Sometimes, updates can fix compatibility issues with cartridges. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP support website. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Reset Printer: Try resetting the printer to its default settings. This can often resolve various issues. You can usually find the reset option in the printer's menu or by referring to the printer's manual.
  • Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the cartridges you're using are compatible with your HP 8710 printer. Sometimes, even if they're authentic HP cartridges, they may not be compatible with certain printer models.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
