Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi.

Just checked HP Laserjet 1020 driver download link from HP serveron Virustotal.com  and noticed a very strange behavior:

Registry Keys Set

\REGISTRY\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\PRODUCTSetup\PPN\996E.exe

and heres another mention of "996E.exe" :

  • C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\EB93A6\996E.exe

https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/5284e27e8f8669088f482e391341097faefa856c0571e39bbf5afd1140f3526c/b...

Which is very interesting as "996E.exe" is a known malware.

so...any comment on that?

Welcome to HP forums.

I see that you are getting drive issue.

You should download the driver from HP website.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download the basic printer driver from HP website.

Click here to download the driver.

Let me know how it goes.
