HP DeskJet 2720e All-in-One Printer

Hi folks, got an odd one. Have been having some trouble connecting to my Deskjet 2720e, so I've done a fresh install of the printer drivers and HP Smart. As I was deleting everything, I noticed that there were two instances of HP printers in my  Printers & Scanners settings. The top one (DIRECT-CA-HP DeskJet 2700 series) does not have the arrow allowing me to access printer settings, does not appear in control panel, persisted through all my attempts to uninstall it, and persists after reinstalling HP Smart and reconnecting to the printer. This is a relatively new laptop which has never connected to another printer before.

Anyone know what this is and how to get rid of it?

The direct one is for printing WiFi direct and would normally be used to print from a phone or other mobile device. In that case you would install the HP Smart app on the device and it installs that way. You could connect your desktop the same way but if it is already working on a standard network connection there is no compelling reason to do that if you are not using WiFi direct you should shut that feature off on the printer.
