Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HPLJ Pro MFP M428fdn that was in the middle of a firmware update when it failed and now the printer only boots to a blue screen.

Is there a way to reset it?

I have powered off and pulled power and booted back up but no change.

This update should not have failed but now all that I have is a big paper weight.

Thanks,

Virgil

Try this

  • Turn the laser printer off and perform one of the following steps:

M426  M427  Touchscreen control panel models: Turn the printer on. When the HP logo appears on the display, press and holds the lower right quadrant of the touchscreen. It takes about 45 seconds before the reset initialization process begins.
  • When the Permanent Storage Init. The message appears on the display, release the buttons.

  • When the printer has finished the reset initialization, it returns to the Ready state.

Try to connect M428 and  PC with a USB cable then try to re-send the firmware again.

What matter is that no matter what method used at first, you need a USB cable & usb driver installed in Windows first then re-send firmware. When re-sending firmware don't forget to select the right driver - the driver that uses the USB cable.

Hope it helps.

Hi East2100,

That is how I am connected already.

I need a way to reset the printer so I can get it to boot up again.

Right now HPSmart will not detect the printer at all.

Hi East2100,

This worked and I was able to get the printer back up and running again.

Thank you for the tip.
