Before I have to pay HP Technical Support, could anyone please tell me if it is possible to reset the administrator password/username for the EWS utility for my HP OfficeJet Pro 8500g?  I had it originally set-up on a desktop computer running Windows Vista and after a while, the desktop, whom I affectionally called CRASH not only CRASHED, but Burned. I have since installed the latest full software on my Windows 7 Laptop-OS home Premium x64 with SP1. Apparently, when I once had the software on my now deceased desktop, I did use the EWS as I keep getting a message that I need a username and password and I have tried every password I think I ever used and I can't get the key to the kingdom! Does anyone know how I can get the EWS password and user name reset? I'd be forever greatful as I need to set-up the digital thingies that I never could on my Vista Desktop as the Solution Center Software never installed correctly, except, apparently for the one time when I did use the EWS! I goofed and set-up the password and username. Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

Hello bethm214,

Please take a look at this solution posted by makeparts on the HP Support Forums:

All you have to do is RESTORE NETWORK DEFAULT settings on the front control panel - follow this path on the front panel of your 8500 Wireless: Setup Menu> Network> Restore Network defaults, this will reset them to default

1) password access requirement is turned OFF

2) username default is ADMIN

3) password is BLANK

On front control panel set your IP network information- Setup Menu> Network> Advanced Setup> IP Settings> Manual. You can then access the EWS, and see all/manage all settings, including resetting the EWS embedded web server password.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you require more assistance.

Thanks,

Hey Linda,

I see you need to reset the EWS administrator settings for your Officejet Pro 8500.  HP has made 2 models of the 8500:

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 (A909 series)
  • HP Officejet Pro 8500a (A910 series)

Which of these 2 models do you have?  These steps will differ slightly depending on which model you have.

Hi:

I have the 909 one. I did see someone's suggestion that I reset everything and then go through the manual setup for doing it. Is that what I need to do? It's been such a pain for over a year, now that I finally got the software to install correctly for the printer I've owned since it first came out, but somewhere a long the line, I think on my old desktop, I did have the EWS set-up and erred by using a password. Then nothing ever worked right for a couple of years, until I put the software on this laptop-desktop is now KAPUT and I need the EWS! Thanks so much and sorry I never saw this, but it got in my junk mail folder.

if you forgot Password for EWS on HP Deskjet 2540 Series, you must resetting your network.

How to reset Network ? you can follow my thread.

1. Turn on your Printers,

2. Press the button "WIRELESS" (Not Wireless Direct Button) and "CANCEL" Button on your Printers in the same time, untill the light of Power Button Blinking, and

3. wait for a minute, resetting on Progress.
