I tried for days to get my scanner to work-I downloaded every fix there was and this simple fix did the trick when I was just about to give up...

This didn't work for me at all. Now what do I do?

The solution is in the failed capacititor at side right board. I change the capatitor (soldered the same value), things start to work. Now works for few years and no sign of any problems.

I have tried the on/off solution and I even tried powering directly from the wall instead of through my surge protector in case it is an over load problem. Nothing has worked.  It's making me crazy and I just purchased a bunch of expensive ink. HELP

On 6-6-15 my HP C6180 printer gave me the "Photo Tray" reset notice displayed on the printer  when I sent a doc to print from my MacBook (with OSX).   The notice on the MacBook was "Paper Jam."  I pulled out and pushed in the paper tray several times with raising and owering the output tray: nothing.  There was no paper jam.  So, I pushed the "Shut Down" button on the printer.  It would not turn off.

I used smartfriend's 2009 instructions.  They worked! Thanks, smartfriend.

(Somehow I managed to loose my wireless connection from the computer to the printer, but the printer worked with a cord connected.)

On August 12, 2015, after a rain storm including some lightening, even though I turned off my printer using the on/offf buton on the front of the printer,   It would work and kept turning off and on.  I tried several options such as unpluging it and nothing worked.

I went on line and found a suggestion fromf ScottAddyman and BINGO, it worked.   I had to reset all the settings, but it is  working again.

Thanks to you for posting your suggestion on the internet.

I tried all this didn't work for me. But this did it dose a complete reset but you only loose the data in the machine. For example you will need to re set up your wireless network. So below is my solution.
Try this:
1. While the printer is still turned on, unplug all cables and cords at the back of the printer.
2. Unplug the power cord also from the wall outlet...
3. Wait for two minutes.
4. Reconnect power cord to the wall outlet first.
5. Press and hold the pound (#) and six (6) buttons.
6. While holding down the two buttons, reconnect the power cord to the back of the printer and after two seconds, release pound and six buttons.
7. Turn on the printer if it turns off...

Let me know for the results.

Thanks Smartfriend worked like a charm. Read your post just before I was about to buy a new printer. Saved me £250 $500.
Again thanks buddy Andy.
