The problem occurs because the capacitors go bad.  The only way to remedy the problem is to replace those capacitors.

That was my next thing but was hoping there was an easier fix lol.  Do you know what would make a printer print from Foxfire but not Internet Explorer? Different Printer.  Thanks for your help.

I had the same problem. Holding the # and 6 down while powering up brought it back to normal. Thanks for the tip!

Hi Smartfriend.

Guess what? I have the same problems as you have responded to. I did use your reset procedure and VOILA, it seemed to work. The machine went thru a longer than usual prep cycle and when I asked it to make a copy, I got the following error message.

Oxc19a0031. Before following your instructions, the message had been Oxc19a0035.  Altough the looping on and off nonsense has stopped, I still don't have a working printer. Any suggestions??

My Photosmart C6180 has continuous loop on/off/on/off when trying to turn on so I am unable to try the suggested solutions because the printer is never "on".  I have tried unplugging from the wall and the reboot suggestions.

Your tip worked out great !!

My printer c8180 was powering off and on continuously.

Saw this posting , immediately took of the board and saw 2 capacitors were swollen (680uf 6.3 v).

Could not wait for an online order to be shipped  for a exact rating so replaced with capacitors with a higher voltage but same 680uf  from one of the old junk power adaptor which was lying around.(was luckky to find one at home)

So repair cost was nill!! .

Printer works great now.

Give up on the wireless! My C6180 did same thing. Thought i had it fixed but as soon as I hit "print", the printer would click and go through the on/off loop again. I tried everything! Connect with usb cable and go through the "add printer" process on your computer. If anyone else needs something printed, email to the connected computer and print from there. The printer worked fine when i had a hp desktop computer. Threw that piece of **bleep** away and got the Mac. Seems that HP didn't want to make drivers for the Mac and has been a struggle since then to keep it working.

fslade, it's too bad that you didn't read the previous comments on how to fix the printer,  Replacing the capacitors fixes the problem and it is really quite easy.  You have thrown away a very nice printer :mansad:

I still have it and am using it but not wirelessly. It is hooked up USB. Maybe they work fine with other HP crap but not with a mac. Glad that you can get yours to work.

I used the reboot protocol and the C6180 will work for a while. If I leave the machine on for an hour or so, it locks up and won't print. It gives me an error message.  I am fairly sure that the capacitors in my machine need to be replaced for normal operation. Can someone please tell me where they are located and what values/numbers are they are? Can I get them from Radio Shack?  If I had the proper ones, I believe that I could replace the bad ones.

Thanks to the learned folks in this forum, at least I can print some stuff as needed.
