macOS 10.12 Sierra

When I open HP Smart on my Mac Laptop, I end up with a blank window and cannot start a new scanning session. This is a new problem. HP Smart worked fine a few weeks ago on this laptop and with the same printer. I restarted both, attempted to download updates, etc. None of these fixes worked. I'm still seeing a blank window and cannot proceed.

I understand there might be a software issue causing the blank window in HP Smart on your Mac. 

 

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

 

  • Update HP Smart: Ensure that you have the latest version of HP Smart installed on your Mac. You can check for updates in the App Store or by visiting the HP website.
  • Restart HP Smart: Sometimes, simply closing and reopening the application can resolve minor issues. Try quitting HP Smart completely and then relaunching it.
  • Restart your Mac: A restart can sometimes clear out temporary issues with software.
  • Reset HP Smart: If restarting doesn't work, you can try resetting HP Smart to its default settings. You can do this by going to the HP Smart menu in the menu bar at the top of the screen and selecting "Reset HP Smart."
  • Check for macOS updates: Ensure that your macOS is up to date. Sometimes, compatibility issues can arise between software and the operating system.
  • Check for printer firmware updates: There might be a firmware update available for your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer. Check the HP website for any available updates and follow the instructions to install them. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Delete and reinstall HP Smart: If none of the above steps work, you can try uninstalling HP Smart from your Mac and then reinstalling it. To do this, drag the HP Smart application from the Applications folder to the Trash, and then empty the Trash. Afterward, download and install the latest version of HP Smart from the HP website or the App Store.
