Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Microsoft Windows 11

My 75 year old father likes to scan things and email them to people. That was easy with the Microsoft Mail app, but they are killing that app and forcing everyone to use the new Outlook app, and the HP Smart app is less compatible with Outlook.

He likes to Scan a page, then click Share, and then in the HP Smart interface he would click the option for the Mail app, and it opened a new draft email and he could choose who to send it to and click Send. But in the HP Smart interface, clicking the Outlook options does NOT launch a draft email in Outlook. It takes you to a new page where it asks you to choose a Contact. For some reason, his email address is the ONLY contact that appears. I have read many online support pages and none of them solve this problem.

Welcome to the HP Community --

I've not found a decent solution to HP Smart and the "New Outlook" --

To date, HP Smart > Share is not playing nice with "New Outlook".

Open your "Mail" app - slide the "New Outlook" to OFF.

Will that work?

Yes - until and unless "New Outlook" sneaks back in and "updates" the Mail application.

I've seen "New Outlook" sneak back in but have not caught the culprit that is adjusting the setting out from under me.

What else?

Make sure Dad is using the Windows Mail app --

If the Mail app has been added to the Taskbar, the (original) Windows Mail app icon is the traditional "Open Mail Envelope"

@Dragon-Fur -- yes, that is what we are doing for now. I agree that it is sneaky and that sooner or later I will need to show him how to toggle that slider. But I see it as a short term solution and for now I am going to leave this discussion as unresolved because MSFT says they will stop supporting the standard Mail app by January 1, 2025 -- and I hope that HP Smart can start to play well with New Outlook before that cut off date.
