We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I am trying to scan to a Network Folder across different subnets and locally but come across different problems. 

I am using a HP Color LaserJet Enterprise MFP M480f printer.

Example subnets: 192.168.1.x and 192.168.3.x

Printer is on 192.168.3.x and network share folder is on a server on the main subnet, 192.168.1.x.

Nothing is being blocked on the network side. And printing to the printer form both networks work without issue. You can even access the EWS on the main subnet, the 192.168.1.x. 

Scanning directly to a USB Drive works perfectly without any issues as well.

I upgraded firmware but it did not resolve the issue.

 

When trying to scan to a network folder across subnets I receive this error: "The network folder path specified does not exist." 

The UNC Folder Path is correct, even tried the IP address of the device where the Shared Folder is located.

Ex: \\IP-Address\ServerName

I have the correct credentials, and they have been given the correct permissions for folder access.

(There is a printer on the main network using the same credentials and scan locations and it is working without issues.)

I tried a number of different combinations without success. 

 

When trying to scan locally to a shared folder, I receive the error: "Invalid Folder Share Credentials".

I tried using the HP Smart app to scan but when I click preview/scan it gives me the error: "Scanning is Currently Unavailable. Select Return Home to check that the printer is connected and active. Once connected, return here to scan." 

It is connected and has a green checkmark.

I uninstalled the app and reinstalled. I disconnected the printer and reconnected it. No success.

 

I also tried to fix the scanning with HP Print and Scan Doctor but when I go into that printer, the "Fix Scanning" button is greyed out. It will not allow me to choose that option.

 

Does anyone have any ideas on what to try to resolve the issue? Is there something I need to enable on the printer to allow me to scan to a network folder or use the HP Smart app scanning?

So, I spoke with HP Support, and they said that printer is able to print over VLANs but not able to scan on different VLANs.

So, it looks like the HP Scan is our work around because it can Scan over the different VLANs once we enabled all three of the settings as mentioned above in the post.

I suggest you make sure that your DNS and gateway are configured to allow communication out from the printer subnet to the subnet where the scan location is located.  While you can print, that does not mean that communication in the other direction is allowed.

So, I apologize my terminology was wrong. They have the same subnet 255.255.255.0 but the IP addresses are different networks. 


I just got HP Scan to work. There were three settings that needed activated to work. Under Security "WebScan Auto Capture Jobs Enable Remote User Auto Capture" had to be enabled, as well as under Networking\Other Settings the "WebScan" and "Secure WebScan" had to be enabled.


The DNS Settings on the printer and for that part of the network are 8.8.8.8 as primary and 8.8.4.4 as the secondary. I am still looking into if that is allowed.
