Hi @rjames73,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet printer is defaulting to scanning from the glass rather than the document feeder when you're attempting to scan multiple pages, there could be a few reasons for this behavior. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check Document Feeder Settings: Make sure that the settings on your printer's control panel or through the accompanying software are configured to use the document feeder. There might be an option to select the document feeder as the scanning source.
  • Clean the Document Feeder: Sometimes dirt or debris can interfere with the document feeder's operation. Clean the document feeder's rollers and ensure no obstruction might prevent it from working properly.
  • Check Document Feeder Sensors: There could be sensors in the document feeder that detect when paper is loaded. If these sensors are malfunctioning, the printer might default to scanning from the glass. Consult the printer's manual for guidance on how to check and troubleshoot these sensors.
  • Update Printer Firmware/Software: Ensure that your printer's firmware and accompanying scanning software are up to date. Sometimes, updates can fix bugs or issues that may be causing the problem.
  • Reset Printer Settings: Try resetting the printer to its factory defaults. This can often resolve issues related to settings that may have been inadvertently changed.
  • Check for Paper Jam: Even a small piece of paper stuck in the document feeder can cause it to malfunction. Open the document feeder cover and carefully inspect for any paper jams or debris.
  • Try Different Scanning Software: If you're using third-party scanning software, try switching to HP's native scanning software (if available) or vice versa. Sometimes, compatibility issues between the software and the printer can cause unexpected behavior.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue with your HP Officejet printer defaulting to scanning from the glass instead of the document feeder.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
