OfficeJet 4655

HP Office Jet 4655 prints normally but does not copy or scan. Recently installed Windows 11. Used Wizard to try to diagnose problem. Driver and firmware are both updated. Unplugged printer, restarted laptop. All of the recommended solutions are having no effect.

Hi @Tomintucson7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP Office Jet 4655 printer can print but is unable to copy or scan, especially after a system update like moving to Windows 11, the issue might be related to the software configuration or the scanning hardware itself. Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot the problem:

Scan and Copy Hardware Check: First, ensure there's no physical issue with the scanner:

  • Check if the scanner light turns on and the scanner bar moves when you attempt to scan or copy.
  • Make sure there is no debris or anything blocking the scanner bar movement.
  • Ensure the scanner glass is clean and free from any smudges or dirt.

HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor, which is designed to fix scanning issues. You can find this tool on the HP Support website. It will check for software issues and attempt to fix them automatically.

Reinstall the HP Software:

  • Sometimes, printer drivers and software might not be fully compatible with new operating systems, or the installation might be corrupted. Reinstall the printer software from scratch:
    • Uninstall the current printer software from your computer.
    • Download the latest version from the HP website specifically designed for Windows 11.
    • Reinstall the software and ensure you select a full software installation to include all functionalities.

Check Windows Scan Settings:

  • Go to Settings -> Devices -> Printers & Scanners. Click on your printer then click 'Manage', and look for a scanner or related settings to see if the scan function is properly configured.

Enable Related Services:

  • Ensure that services related to scanning are running on Windows 11:
    • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • Look for services like Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) and make sure they are set to 'Automatic' and running. Restart these services if they're already running.

Check Network Configuration (if using printer over network):

  • Ensure that your printer’s network settings are correctly configured, and it’s connected to the same network as your PC.
  • Try connecting with a USB cable instead of using it over the network to see if it makes a difference.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
