Microsoft Windows 11

I constantly get "Unable to scan, copy or send a fax" despite trying all of the possible fixes I have found in the HP forums. I have done all of these repeatedly (except updating firmware, which I did once) :

A. Firmware updated to EXM1CN2022AR

B. Partial and Semi-full resets

C. Unplugging power from back of printer and wall outlet, waiting >30 seconds, plugging back in

D. Plugging directly into various wall outlets in our house

E. Running the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows

F. Installing current driver and utilities on various computers, both Win10 and Win11, all 64-bit

I found that scanning MIGHT work after doing either a Partial or Semi-full Reset. Attempting one or the other, this has happened ONCE:

a. Scanning and copying work!

b. Using the power button on the printer, turn the printer off and back on.

c. The "Unable to scan, copy or send a fax" comes back immediately.

d. Printing works fine over USB, Wi-Fi, or LAN.

Questions:

1. Since scanning might work after a Partial or Semi-full reset, does this rule out this being a hardware issue with the scanner?

2. When I turn the printer on, I very quickly hear the sound of something in the scanner moving for at most a second, immediately after which the "Unable to scan, copy or send a fax" message appears on the printer's display. The main scanner mechanism with the lights does not move. Does this suggest it's a hardware issue?

3. What sort of home electrical issues would cause the scanner not to work? If someone can describe the technical problem with the electricity, I'll have an electrician check it.

4. If there is somehow an electrical issue with my entire house, might a high quality UPS get the scanner to work?

Hi @christopher_pc,

I'd like to help!

I understand you are receiving an "Unable to scan, copy or send a fax" error.

As the scanner bar is not moving or lighting up it is a hardware issue. I'd suggest you contact HP support in your region regarding the service options for your printer

Follow the instructions below to reach them:

1) Click on this link - https://www.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences.

6)Fill out the web form and proceed further.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Have a great day!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I decided to give up. I didn't want to spend more time or spend money to get scanning to work on this old all-in-one. I'll use it only as a printer. I bought a dedicated large-format scanner.
