I have an answering machine on the phoneline which would be used for incoming faxes. The directions don't address how Fax to PC uses the phone line at all. How do you set it up? Do you need a distinctive ring number or can you use the same phone number as the landline? Will the answering machine pick up the faxes?

Hi @MSS1,

Thanks for reaching out to the forums! I understand that you are having issues faxing. I would be happy to help you.

It doesn't look like you can fax to the PC with the software for this model. You would have to send and receive the faxes from the printer.

This document provides steps for not being able to fax and it also provides the information for connecting the fax: Cannot Send or Receive Faxes. Disregard the title.

I have provided the printer's user manual for setting up the fax, starting on page 62: Photosmart C7280.

Here is a document for receiving faxes: Receiving a Fax.

If the issue is resolved and you appreciate my help, please click the "Accept as Solution" and the "Thumbs Up" buttons. Let me know how you make out. Cheers!

thank you for your response. When I looked up the guide on the HP support website, supposedly for my specific model, it gave the instructions for Auto fax receipt using the computer, but the guide you provided did not. Frontier finally got my distinctive ring working, so fax feature back up and running.

I just noticed the feature for blocking junk faxes in the manual, so, after years of spam fax, I can hopefully cut those down!
