hp envy 4500. will not use #61 black ink cartridge

I understand your HP Envy 4500 printer is indicating that the 61 ink cartridge is unrecognizable, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

 

  • Verify Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the cartridge is properly installed. Remove it and reinsert it to make sure it's seated correctly.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes, the contacts on the cartridge or in the printer can get dirty, preventing recognition. Gently wipe the contacts with a clean, lint-free cloth to remove any dust or residue.
  • Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on. This can sometimes reset the printer's internal mechanisms and resolve recognition issues.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website. Updating the firmware might resolve compatibility issues. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Try Another Cartridge: If you have another 61 ink cartridge available, try inserting it into the printer to see if the issue persists. This will help determine whether the problem is with the cartridge or the printer.
