Ok, I have this computer at home. I've tried 3 different 8gb modules. NONE work. 4gb works fine.

What I've tried:

DMS

Crucial

Kingston.

Just a black screen on boot. Put the 4gb in, works fine.

Is there a trick to this?

BIOS update?

Voodoo?

This is what it came with, and is currently installed:

Samsung

4gb1Rx8 PC3L-12800s 11-13-84

The memory bay IS customer accessable.

I tried to replace the stated chip, with the 8gb version of it.

Kunder.

What is the total memory that is installed???

  1. 6144 MB (4096 MB×1 + 2048 MB×1)
  1. 4096 MB (4096 MB×1 or 2048 MB×2)
  1. 2048 MB (2048 MB×1)

One SODIMM non-customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slot (Pentium, Celeron processors)

DDR3L-1333 MHz dual channel support (DDR3L-1600 downgraded to DDR3L-1333)

Supports up to 4 GB max system memory (DDR3L-1600 MHz module)

The Maintenence & Service Guide states that the systemboard supports a maximum of GB.

Apparently that is true, based on the result you are getting.

I must admit that the manual is confusing. It states 4 GB Max and then states the following.

"

Supports up to 4 GB max system memory (DDR3L-1600 MHz module)
Supports the following system RAM configurations:
●8192 MB (8192 MB×1 or 4096 MB×2)
●6144 MB (4096 MB×1 + 2048 MB×1)
●4096 MB (4096 MB×1 or 2048 MB×2)
●2048 MB (2048 MB×1)

Best I can make out in the Manual, the Intel Core models can take 8 gigs but the Pentium and Celeron can only take up to 4. That seems odd, but your experience proves it out as @erico says.

I figured as much. Thanx!

Does anyone know if the CPU is soldered to the board? or is it set in a socket, and can be removed.

Thanx!

There are a lot of very low-powered laptops out there at places like Wal-Mart. You gotta look at what you are buying. Just because it is a laptop and it is $229 don't buy it thinking you can make it better. Nothing but frustration.
