Bought my wife a new HP Envy, inherited her old Envy 17 inch and realized that when you open the screen the bottom panel separates some in the left corner by left hinge. I guess this is a ongoing problem for these models. Wondering if HP is doing anything about this issue through means of out of warranty assistance? For me the biggest concern is that this will get worse and affect the fan or worse the hinge will break completely.

I have the exact same problem! Seems to be a major design flaw. One of which HP doesn't seem to even acknowledge. For a laptop that cost me over $1000.00, you'd think it would at least open and close without causing harm. When searching "HP Envy Left Hinge", it brings up a multitude of complaints. To replace the bottom cover it is $40. Buying just the bottom cover won't fix the problem though. It's absolutely absurd. I can't get any answers from HP either. The laptop itself has been great. Unfortunately, the poor design and useless customer support has deterred me from purchasing another HP product.
