Hi @kalidiso,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!

I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Spectre x360  Notebook and issues with connecting to the Ethernet via USB 3.0. This notebook does not connect to the Ethernet via USB 3.0. It does not have the compatible with a USB ethernet cable only Wifi and Bluetooth. Here is a link to your Product page.

I hope this helps.

Thanks.

This answer is wrong. I have a Spectre x360 and it is connected to the internet via usb 3.0  ethernet adapter right now. I also have a second adapter for usb 2.0, and it works also. This second one came from Hewlett Packard. Both work.

The salespeople know and will tell you that OF COURSE you can connect the Spectre x360 to the internet with a usb-ethernet adapter, but "customer service" doesn't know why it's not working and they are mostly just making up answers.

Apparently the problem is with the Windows 10 upgrade. I had to roll mine back (aaaaarrrggghh!) to 8.1 but now it works. The problem is that I'm afraid to upgrade again. I had the drivers for the adapters, updated them, but it didn't work. And I spent hours and hours and hours on customer service with people pretending to know the answer and then claiming that the machine was never meant to work with an adapter. That's a flat out lie, which anybody would know who read the reviews -- HP sent the machines out to the tech press to be reviewed with usb-ethernet adapters. They worked.

I didn't use either adapter until AFTER I upgraded to Windows 10. I hope that since they are properly installed now, Windows will let them be, but it may be a while before I mess with it. This has cost me a lot of time and trouble and aggravation.

Are you working with Windows 10 or 8.1? I just did a factory reset back to 8.1 and both of my USB-ethernet adapters work now. It took me a long time to be convinced that nobody, anywhere, could fix this problem without a time-consuming reset. I installed the right drivers that came with the devices, but they don't work with Windows 10.

Along the path, I had multiple HP employees tell me that the adapters weren't supposed to work.  (Saw the answer on this forum, too.) That's not true. It's just something they are saying because they can't fix it. "Oh, well, this is designed maximum portability and not for ethernet connection."

Now is Windows 10 going to destroy this functionality when I upgrade again? Don't know. May not bother. Wish I had never bought the laptop and never even heard of Windows 8 or 10.

I wish support would just say "I don't know" when they don't know instead of making things up.

For an HP agent this is a very poor and incorrect response. Terrible service that undermines HPs brand and credibility.

There are many publicly availble USB to Ethernet adapators. These work on all USB ports.

The issue is a software problem. If i use a VPN (like ExpressVPN) then i CAN connect through the Spectre's USB + Ethernet adaptor.  However my other Windows 10 has no issues (Different brands)

For some reason if i dont use VPN i get a DNS failure...

Lucky the community is trying to help.

If you stumble upon this thread and it scares you, don't fret.  I just purchased a Spectre x360 with Windows 10 installed.  After reading this thread (especially the broken English nonsense from HP support) I was worried I'd forever be stuck on wi-fi.  I swung by BestBuy last night and picked up a Belkin "USB 3.0 HUB + GIGABIT ETHERNET".  So far, it is working flawlessly, with no additional driver installs or anything.

On another note, a couple folks here were concerned about upgrading from 8 to 10.  If you have drivers installed and working in 8, the upgrade will leave them alone, so you should be fine.  That said, this is Microsoft we're talking about...

Hi all,

The Solution is very simple.

Go in the Bios and enable the legacy Support.

That works with my "HP Spectre x360-13-4230"
