Hi,
I recently bought my HP Envy laptop about a year ago and I have used it moderatly for school and work. I made sure to buy the included GTX 950m Graphics Card so I could play some of my steam games and I am just starting to realize some degredation in my laptop's performance. I am not talking about degredation from when I bought the laptop until now but I'm talking about simply playing a game and having some amazing performance (Graphics on Med-High and about 50-60 fps) but after like 5 minutes of gaming it slowly starts to dip to like 14-15fps. In particular, I tried playing Overwatch today and had some amazing gameplay for the first 5 minutes however I dropped down to 15fps and it was barely playable. I tried changing the resolution and that seemed to have fixed it however the same issue happened after five minutes again. I have no idea why my laptop would do this especially since I have not really used it as much for gaming this past year and I am sure to maintian computer performance by updating drivers, restarting often, and defraging.

I think I finally found a solution to the problem. I was on my friends laptop (which is similar to mine) and noticed that she hadn't updated her geforce experience. So I updated it for her and she started noticing the same problems I was having. Turns out that this NVIDIA GeForce Experience isn't really necessary for games because it does not include the graphics driver. So as soon as I uninstalled that, everything started running amazingly. Faster startup times, no fps drops, and just overall better performance. Who would have known to try uninstalling the only software I have to pertain to graphics card so that my graphics card will run smoother and not affect my computer.
Thanks for the time to help me out though. I am just so glad I figured this out.

I just checked and my laptop is the
HP ENVY Notebook - 14t-j000 CTO.
I have not performed any upgrades on this computer and I have barely used it for gaming. Last summer I remember the same issue was occuring where the laptop seems fine after about five minutes however it starts to slow down overtime.

Hello @CrazyAce,
I understand that you have indicated that the drivers are up to date. Have you increased the RAM in the notebook? If the notebook is not having any hardware, or software issues, then a RAM upgrade, may be a possible solution.

I just got home from work so I can look more into this issue. I do not believe it is an issue of ram. Right now I have the recommended 12GB of RAM which I believe is more than enough since most systems (even some gaming) have only 8 GB.

Hello @CrazyAce,
If the issue is software related, then you can try performing a System Recovery, as explained in my previous document. If you are still having trouble with the game, after putting the notebook back to its factory settings, then the issue may be hardware related.
Regards!
