HP Envy 15 j108la
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello.

Recently I got a new router, which has two networks. One, with a 2,4 Ghz wifi and the other with the 5 Ghz wifi.

I read through my laptop's specs and details and it said to have a dual wifi card incorpored, which means it supports the 5 Ghz wifi. My problem is it doesn't recognize the 5Ghz network (the network name doesn't appear when searching for available connections). Is there any issue that may be causing this?

My laptop model is HP Envy 15 j108la.

Apologies for jumping in!

@TechSurge gives excellent advice >> look at the source information.

Your data:

One "give away" that the wireless presumably only supports 2.4GHz is the lack of "a", "ac" wireless description in the Specifications:

Intel 2x2 802.11b/g/n WLAN

Example from ZBook 17 G3 Specs:

802.11 Wireless LAN
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2 x 2) Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 Combo (vPro)

Commentary

Specifications can lie -- they are just documents, after all.

A hint to what you have installed is found in

Control Panel > icon view > Device Manager > Network Adapters >

Right-Click on Wireless > Properties > Advanced

Look for both

802.11n Channel Width for 2.4GHz  (Auto)

802.11n Channel Width for 5.2GHz  (Auto)

Scroll down, look for "Preferred Band" >>

Drop down menu provides both bands for wireless providing 2.4GHz / 5.2GHz

Hey @Nigredines,

I understand you have some questions about the wireless card in your notebook. I'd be happy to help.

After looking into it for about two hours, as I too was a bit confused, I've found that your notebook comes with a Intel 2x2 802.11b/g/n WLAN, which is a single band card that runs 2.4GHZ. I found this information on intel.com. Here's the link if you'd like to take a look: wireless-n-7260-bluetooth-brief.pdf

I hope this answers your question. If you have any other questions or concerns, please get back to me.
